Garden, full of perennials * Vrt, poln trajnic

The last article I`ve written for the magazine Moj mali svet (My little world) was about perennials in garden. My garden is now much different from what it used to be, as there are more and more perennials in it. Some were sown or planted by me and others determined their place and stayed by themselves. The whole story proved what I already knew – whenever I give up the need to control and let nature teach me, I end up with much less work and much more success. Perennials gradually sneaked themselves into my garden – first those, who weren’t visible in garden beds during winter and hid themselves from cold (and me :) in the ground, and later those who insist growing in the garden practically all the time. And there are those, who stay in my garden permanently because they plant themselves by throwing away their seeds. I hope that in time my garden will become completely sustainable … which would be wonderful of course … having a permaculture forest garden. For now the permanent inhabitants include kale, bear garlic, radicchio, rocket, Jerusalem artichoke, rhubarb, straw- and other berries, onion, borage, New Zealand spinach – and from this year forward garlic as well (ha, that means no more planting!). Some of them are such hard workers that it is sometimes difficult to be able to eat them soon enough and prevent them to occupy the garden (for example the Jerusalem artichoke). The New Zealand spinach and borage successfully sow themselves every year, as well as calendula and other lovely garden flowers. And because of some „unknown reason“ I can find young and very healthy plants of tomato and zucchinis in the most unexpected places again and again … I can hardly wait for the spring to come :) Moj zadnji članek v reviji Moj mali svet je o trajnicah v vrtu.

And on this picture below you can see a type of more or less indoor winter perennial (doesn`t like to stay outside too long, because of cold weather). She`s the latest addition from the animal world, a small but very hairy black and white cat. I have found her in the middle of September last year in the woods below the house. It was already almost dark and very cold outside. She was perhaps two months old, hungry, cold and frightened as hell. But she managed to heal her body and soul and now she is the best little friend one can think of.
